Simon Robertson is an English composer and sound designer, best known for his work in Acclaim video games.
He was first introduced to music through his father, who frequently brought him to his band’s performances. As he grew older, he gained an affinity with computers and became fascinated with the ability to create music with them. After finishing school, he was accepted into the Epsom School of Art and Design, with the intent of learning 3D CGI animation and techniques. However, he soon lost interest in the classes and decided to leave the course to learn CGI in his spare time.
He eventually found work at Probe Entertainment (which was later bought by Acclaim and renamed Acclaim Studios London) in 1996, as a game tester. He later got a position as a composer in the music department after sending in samples of his own music. Some time later, the head of the music department, Stephen Root, introduced him to Dominic Glynn, who quickly signed him to his underground electronic music label No Bones Records. From 1999 to 2003, he released a 12” single and three studio albums under the "Gen-Ik" alias. Archives of his website reveal that a fourth album was planned, titled “Evolutionism”, however, the reasons for the album’s untimely demise remain uncertain.
He left Acclaim Studios London in 2001 following its closing down, and worked at SSEYO as an Interactive Media Designer. He stayed there for 5 years and then departed the company to pursue his own web programming business. He continued doing this for 10 years. In 2016, he started working at Computech as a Senior Software Engineer. In 2018, he left Computech and started working at Simpplr as a UI Engineer. In November 2018, he started working at Gather Capture as a Technical Developer, where he still works to this day.
