The ZX Spectrum Next is an 8-bit home computer developed as an enhanced and updated version of the original 1982 ZX Spectrum, designed to be fully compatible with its software and hardware while incorporating modern advancements.

It is not affiliated with Sinclair Research Ltd., Sir Clive Sinclair, or Sky Group, the current trademark holders. The project originated in 2010 in Brazil as a variant of the TK95 Spectrum clone, evolving into the TBBlue firmware in 2016 by Victor Trucco and Fabio Belavenuto.

The industrial design was led by Rick Dickinson, the original ZX Spectrum designer, who passed away during the project's development; his partner, Phil Candy, completed the case design.

The machine is built using FPGA technology, allowing for hardware flexibility and future upgrades while maintaining compatibility with the original Spectrum. It features a Zilog Z80-compatible CPU (Z80N) implemented in an FPGA, capable of running at speeds of 3.5, 7, 14, or 28 MHz.

The base model includes 1024 KB of RAM, upgradeable to 2048 KB. It supports advanced graphics with resolutions up to 640×256 pixels, 16 or 256 on-screen colors from a 512-color palette, and up to 128 hardware sprites. Sound is provided through a traditional beeper, three General Instrument AY-3-8910 PSGs (supporting stereo output), and four 8-bit DACs. Connectivity includes HDMI, VGA/RGB, audio out, PS/2 mouse port, two joystick ports, a tape interface, and Wi-Fi on select models.

The machine runs the NextZXOS operating system, NextBASIC, and optionally CP/M, with support for original ZX Spectrum software and new applications leveraging its expanded hardware.
It includes a built-in SD card slot for storage, with compatibility for cassette tapes, ZX Microdrive, and other original Spectrum peripherals.
The project aims to inspire a new generation of programmers and retrocomputing enthusiasts.
