For free software, the first thing to do is to download it from the official website. If I have to use free software, I look for the website link on Wikipedia. Often, download links on other websites download the software together with other malicious prog

And yeah, you have a point about cracked/pirated software… It's hard to tell if the cracker snuck something malicious into the EXE or DLL they modified to bypass checks.

Indeed! Oddly, when I think of free/open source software, I get a feeling it can be trusted, but really, you're right, even it can be unsafe.

yes, exploits are dangerous, especially on browsers, but I fear more backdoors in free software (I only use original software, pirated software always has backdoors/viruses)

Both my work PC are W10, but I do backup on server every day, my personal new PC is W11 but I have also an old 8.1 and some oldest in the attic
