Metamorphosis is young and creative. With their affluent sophistication in jazz music, the members are devoted to bringing out the soulful spirit of jazz for attentive audiences. The band shows its versatility through playing a variety of styles of jazz from the 20th century, including : Swing, Dixieland, Bebop, Cool Jazz, Fusion and Latin Jazz. Besides playing these jazz Standards, Metamorphosis also shows enthusiasm for composing their own music which speaks for the Taiwanese jazz scene. Rearranging Taiwanese folk songs into jazz style and creating their own works are two important ways for Metamorphosis and its audiences to “localize” Taiwanese jazz.

Metamorphosis plays gigs every week in Taipei’s oldest jazz bar. They have also performed live more than a hundred times at many important Taiwanese jazz festivals since the band was formed. In 2001, Metamorphosis even launched their first album recorded live at the Youth Art Center and Ta-an Forest Park. This album shows the improvisational skills and interaction between members of Metamorphosis during live performances.

With the first Taiwanese original jazz album, Metamorphosis has set an important milestone for the music market, also a memorable first step for other Taiwanese jazz bands and their audiences. Localizing jazz is a worldwide trend. As a pioneer, Metamorphosis Jazztet looks forward to propelling and advancing the mode of jazz music in this country through writing and performing their own original “Taiwanese Jazz”. It brings lively energy into the circle of musicians, and every member is devoted to this music style to herald a new genesis of local jazz scene in Taiwan.
