Some tunes sound very high volume and some are at very high volume, is there some sort of fix for this coming in the future?

We currently use ices0 for the audio stream, which is a bit shit and has no automatic normalization. Eventually, i'll re-write the code to use a newer version (such as ices2) so until then, we're stuck with it hehe In the meantime, you could normalize tracks before uploading if you wanted to.

How about using "MP3gain"? http://mp3gain.sourceforge.net/

here is a quote from the website:

"It does not simply do peak amplitude normalization. Instead, it performs statistical analysis to determine how loud the file actually sounds to the human ear."

I have tested and having a "target value" 86 dB is probably most suited value, as it does not sound too low and does not clip most tunes here (mostly XG recordings) so it sound distorted.

I'm sure MP3gain can be added to automatically adjust all uploaded tunes.

While I was in the UK, I processed all files with MP3gain and re-uploaded each affected file. I hear some differences now at work, so it seems to have worked well. Anyone else noticed the difference?

All tunes I have been uploading lately have the mp3gain values attached to them first. I will put this up on the uploads page text today or tomorrow, making it mandatory for everyone!
